The Motorsport UK Academy are delighted to announce that, following an assessment day hosted by iZone Driver Performance Centre, Theo Micouris, British Kart Championship driver, has been selected to represent the UK at the FIA Karting Academy Trophy Championship. Following a record number of applications for 2020, Theo, who was the 2020 Vice Champion in the Mini X30 British Championship last year, was amongst a high-calibre of four shortlisted drivers including;
Freddie Spindlow, Oliver Stewart and Brandon Carr
The iZone assessment consisted of kart simulator driving (under varying conditions) and included distraction tasks and other assessments. The drivers then completed some gym assessments focusing on balance, co-ordination, reaction and grip strength, followed by a concentration task on the neurotracker. The day finished with an interview with the judging panel where there was a chance for the young drivers to share their karting CV, achievements and aspirations for the future.
Competitors Pathway Manager, Katie Baldwin said “All of the drivers performed incredibly highly on the day and the selection decision was not an easy one, however, Theo really stood out across the board and showed great adaptability and fearlessness. Motorsport UK are supporting Theo with preparations for the championship and I am really looking forward to seeing him progress through the rounds and wish him all the best for the championship.”
The unique championship kicks off in Lonato in May before heading to Genk and finishing at Le Mans. All competitors are provided with a randomly selected OTK-designed kart and Vortex engine ensuring that the best young drivers from around the world compete against each other on equal terms.
