BRITISH KARTING AWARDS CELEBRATE 2024 SEASON

Last Friday, Silverstone played host to the 2024 British Karting Awards. Over 350 people including drivers, teams, officials, partners and sponsors congregated in The Wing to celebrate the many achievements within the karting community across the course of the year.

The evening gave opportunity to award the championship trophies for those successful on the national scene in both the Wera Tools British Kart Championships and British Indoor Karting Championships, and to reminisce and celebrate the many international achievements by British drivers across the course of the 2024 karting season.

The British Champions in each category were greeted warmly alongside other top performing race winners, rookies and privateers. It was a special night for Strawberry Racing’s Albie Friend, 2024 BKC MiniMax Champion, as he received the Marc Hines Trophy for young drivers and picked up the award for being the highest BKC points scorer in the FIA International Karting Ranking.

Following the strong array of performances by British drivers on the global stage in 2024, there was special recognition for both victors on home soil at PF International in the CIK-FIA World Championships, Ethan Jeff-Hall (OK) and Kenzo Craigie (OK-J). Both were joined on stage by Motorsport UK CEO Hugh Chambers who presented each with Outstanding Achievement Awards.

Amongst the international successes honoured were Jorge Edgar’s gold medal at the FIA Motorsport Games, Team UK’s success at the Rotax Grand Finals and Joe Turney’s superb year as European Champion, World Championship Runner-Up and top scoring Briton in the FIA’s International Karting Rankings, eliciting a rousing response from the audience.

On display in Hall 5 were each of the winning karts from this year’s Wera Tools British Kart Championships alongside the triumphant World Championship machines. Thanks go out to all of the winning entrants, including Team of the Year Fusion Motorsport, and TeamSport, present with the indoor kart from the previous weekend’s BIKC Grand Final, for providing their displays showcasing the full breadth of the Karting Pathway.

Amongst the various partners and sponsors present, IAME gifted an array of prizes including tours of Mercedes F1 facility, eSports sim sessions with works Mercedes drivers, Bell CMR Helmets, and exclusive F1 memorabilia from F1 Authentics, along with drivers receiving the new IAME Perpetual trophies.

JAG Rotax proudly rewarded the top drivers across the ladder of Rotax categories with prize engines and JAG vouchers for use ahead of the 2025 season. KartSim gifted tickets for coaching sessions at their Silverstone-based facility to each category winner.

A highlight of the evening was the announcement on stage from Ian Walford, Wera Tools UK Managing Director, that the successful partnership between title sponsors Wera Tools and Motorsport UK will continue for a further three seasons of the British Kart Championships.

The evening’s final part thanked those who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes, both on and off track, to deliver the eleven races promoted by Motorsport UK this year, including the Event of the Year winning Rotax Grand Festival at Warden Law run by Motorsport UK. None of those races could have happened without the efforts of Special Achievement Award recipient, Trevor Gowing, and the Sue Potter Official of the Year Award Winner, Danielle Short.

As the sun sets on the 2024 season, we take the opportunity to especially thank Trevor and Danielle for all their hard work and dedication over many years. Congratulations to all our award winners and thanks also to all who attended and supported this year’s British Karting Awards. We hope you enjoyed the evening and look forward to seeing you all again next year. The 2025 season promises to be bigger and better than ever with further substantial investment planned.

Registrations for the 2025 Wera Tools British Kart Championship for Rotax, IAME, KZ2 and Honda Cadet will open shortly.
