🏆2019 Junior Rotax Top Privateer – Jenson Watts

Each week we are speaking to our 2019 Champions and ask them some all important questions to see what makes them tick.

Next up is 2019 Junior Rotax Top Privateer – Jenson Watts

How did you get started in the sport?

My dad started racing when I was about 3 years old. He raced at Dunkeswell and used to race against Nigel Mansell in Rotax 177. He bought me a kart when I was nearly 8 years old.

What was the highlight of your Privateer title winning year?

I have 2 Highlights, getting a seeded number, 10, with 1 engine and a chassis that was 2 years old. Also, Final 2 at GYG where I started 21st and came through to 7th.

What was your low point last season?

Mansell Raceway. This is my local track where I have won Championships. I expected to be in the top 5 but struggled for pace. It turned out my old chassis had cracked which we fund afterwards.

Why do you enjoy competing in Karting and the BKC?

I enjoy karting as I get time with my mum and dad, my grandparents also come to watch me. I also love the speed as well and I like the fact its very different to the normal football or rugby etc.

What’s your favourite circuit?

Mansell Raceway or Rowrah.

Who has been your toughest rival?

My toughest rival was probably Tom Adams, we have been racing each other for years now.

When we do get underway, what are your hopes for the new season?

I’m hoping to challenge for the top 10 again.

Due to the delayed start to the season what are you planning on doing with this unexpected time off from racing?

I should have been sitting my GCSE exams, but they have been cancelled. I’m starting sixth form in September. I’m currently enjoying some time off and keeping fit.

We wish Jenson and everyone in the BKC well. Stay safe and look after each other. We will be back in action before you know it #StayOnTrack
