🏆2019 X30 Senior Top Rookie – Henry Ayers

Each week we are speaking to our 2019 Champions and ask them some all important questions to see what makes them tick.

This week is 2019 X30 Senior Top Rookie – Henry Ayers

How did you get started in the sport?

We were on holiday in Gran Canaria and my dad encouraged me to go karting. The engineer at the track didn’t speak any English and I got very confused on which pedal to use to stop and go. There were some German men making fun of me but eventually when I got on track I beat them, all, with a less powerful kart.

What was the highlight of your ‘Rookie’ title winning year?

Larkhall, despite never having raced there before, I started to gain confidence and move up the rankings.

What was your low point last season?

The first and last rounds were difficult. The first round I had just recently joined KR- Sport and the previous year we didn’t have much of a budget, so I drove very little and our equipment was not up to scratch. KR-Sport rectified this quickly afterwards, but the first round was tough. The last round was just unlucky, I had two DNF’s in the finals for technical reasons and nearly didn’t win the Rookie title.

Why do you enjoy competing in Karting and the BKC?

It’s where all the best drivers race in the world and it’s a real privilege to drive with them.

What’s your favourite circuit?

Whilton Mill, it’s fast, flowing and quite technical.

Who has been your toughest rival?

All the drivers are exceptional so I will try to beat them all.

When we do get underway, what are your hopes for the new season?

I am back in Rotax this year, it’s a little less expensive and I’m hoping to move up the rankings and possibly the top 10.

Due to the delayed start to the season what are you planning on doing with this unexpected time off from racing?

Training – as we only managed about 12 weekends last year, again because of budget we are used to gaps between races. Although I miss racing a lot, I will be focusing on keeping fit and my A-levels.

We wish Henry and everyone in the BKC well. Stay safe and look after each other. We will be back in action before you know it #StayOnTrack
